‘The Whimsy of Architecture’ series illustrates a different perspective of architecture in Macau through envisioning deconstruction and recomposition of the buildings as well as relating them to urban environment. This deepens the connection between the architecture itself and the surroundings, thus viewers may appreciate the drawings from an interesting and imaginative perspective instead of seeing them as cold and dull objects.
The entire collection is mainly illustrated with dip pen and colour inks which enhance the details. Dark blue and green are the main colours which give a sense of tranquility and highlight the historic architectural characteristics.
The first drawing shows the Octagonal Pavilion Library which was named after the octagon shape layout. It is one of the oldest libraries that still exist in Macau. The design of the window frames and eaves represent Chinese traditional style, forming a big contrast with the European architecture in the garden nearby. In the drawing, the combination of the Octagonal Pavilion Library and the Wallace Fountain next to it is demonstrating the multicultural coexistence in Macau.
