Dom Pedro V Theatre
Teatro D. Pedro V

Media: Ink, Watercolour
Size: 30 x 43cm

The Dom Pedro V Theatre is known as the first Western-style theatre in China and has served as a venue for various kinds of art performance since built in 1860.  Some performances of the Macao International Music Festival and Arts Festival are also held in the theatre over recent years.

The design of the building reflects neoclassical style in green shade. The windows with decorative frame in dark green form a harmonious colour palette with the surrounding yellow buildings and the monochrome pebble stone road pavements.  The urban environment connects the theatre, the adjacent St. Augustine's Church , Sir Robert Ho Tung Library and becomes a  unique historical zone.

This drawing is designed in two separate layers and the proportion of some elements is over exaggerated to arouse attention to their special and elegant features. One key element is a decorative window crafted with curved patterns which forms a frame in the first layer. The window is enlarged and raised up to create a sense of enclosure for the main contents inside. It becomes an entrance that leads the viewers to the second layer where the theatre facade is illustrated in various shades of orange which pops out from the dark green background to form a stunning contrast.
